Tom o'Sullivan

Consulting Associate

Tom has been working in Asia for over 20 years in Tokyo and Hong Kong.

As an Energy Consultant he is focusing now on providing consulting advice to Energy and Power companies in North East Asia (Japan, China, and South Korea) but particularly Japan where he is based.

The main thrust of his activities is with Japanese Electricity Generators and with Gas Companies in Japan advising on international best practice particularly in the aftermath of the March 2011 Fukushima Nuclear tragedy.

Tom has just completed a detailed review of Japan’s High Voltage Transmission Grid.

Tom is also an experienced investment banker having working in the investment banking departments of Merrill Lynch and Deutsche Bank in Asia and also in the investment management industry with a focus on capital raising and mergers and acquisitions including for the power, and oil and gas sectors.

There is a considerable focus recently on deregulation of the power industry in Japan, expansion of renewable energy resources, energy demand-side initiatives, and the secure supply of LNG and related infrastructure. These are the areas that absorb most of Tom’s time.
All aspects of the UK, German, European, and US energy and power markets are being constantly scrutinized by North East Asian industry participants for best practice in the power and energy sectors.

Tom’s clients span the private and public sectors, upstream, midstream, and downstream, including various research organizations focusing on the energy industry.

Tom is a Chartered Accountant having trained with PricewaterhouseCoopers, and is a Civil Engineer.
